Getting started
Use the contact form to let us know you wish to join us. As we are non-profit, there is no fee for instruction.
We highly encourage you to observe a class first, but it is not required.
Please wear athletic pants and a t-shirt and remove any jewelry, ideally before arriving. There are locker rooms and showers in the facilities if you would like to use them.
When you join us, please arrive at least 5 minutes before class starts to avoid interruptions. Please take off your shoes when you enter and do not step over anyone’s equipment as you move through the dojo.
Your first class will involve learning the basics of how to hold and swing the shinai, how to move, and a few Kendo terms in Japanese. We will lend you a shinai (bamboo wooden sword) for your first practice.
After your first practice we will provide advice if you would like to continue for where to purchase one for yourself. They cost between 35-50$ shipped, and it is the only piece of equipment you need for the first few months.
